It's Been Done

I was talking to my career counselor via e-mail
We were discussing why my grandiose plans always fail
I was seein the light and I had some insight
I conceived of a plan I KNEW would go right
I outlined my thoughts - I was sure they would fly
My counselor said "Nah - It won’t fly and here’s why:

It’s been done
I’m sorry to say
It’s been done
It’s not gonna play
I’m sorry to break
the news to you, son
But the fact of the matter is:
It’s been done"

So I went to my therapist of the last twenty years
She had cured my addiction to sex and dark beers
Eight hours a day for two years we consulted
I was trying my best, but no progress resulted
We had tried all the therapy techniques that she knew
And I asked if there was anything else we could do

"It’s been done!" My therapist screamed
"It’s been done!
All that stuff that you dream!
There’s not one original
thought in your head!
My diagnosis is this:
You’d be better off dead!"

Solo - y’know I think this riff has been done

So I went to my wife, my blushing new bride
I was thinking perhaps SHE would be on my side
I said, "Honey, remember that night we went crazy together?
With the ropes and the Crisco, and the whips and the leather?
That’s the one time I felt everything was just right
Do you think we could try those positions tonight?"

She said, "hon
That won’t happen again
It’s been done
This is now that was then
The truth is although
that one time it was fun
I won’t do that again
It’s already been done."

It’s been done
Everything that I try
It’s been done
And I still don’t know why
Just when I’m sure
I’ve found something new
It turns out it’s been done
And my plans all fall thru

It’s been done
It’s been done
It’s been done
It’s been done

Y’know this all really sounds, I dunno, really familiar to me....
